In First Corinthians Chapter Thirteen, Paul is not talking about a sappy, sentimental version of love. He’s not just talking about the love between a husband and a wife. Instead, he’s talking about a love that pushes us, challenges us, and stretches us. Love opens us up – first to be transformed through Jesus – but also to transform through Jesus. Love like this can be outrageous. It can be messy. It can be uncomfortable. But that is what we are called to do – that is who we are called to be.
